The food of the poor

I am a research-based photographer living and working between Europe and Colombia. In my work, I delve into the politics of identity, connecting my own experience navigating between both cultural realities with other voices. I use the image to start dialogues that reveal how colonial legacies influence our imaginaries and to question the impact of the collective memory and cultural heritage in the construction of the identity.

 I studied Documentary Photography and Contemporary Creation at IDEP Barcelona, hold a postgraduate degree in Photography from the National University of Colombia and hold a Master degree in Photography and Society from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), in The Hague. I was part of Lighthouse 2020–21, a program for upcoming talents at Fotodok, Utrecht. In 2022 I was selected to join Futures Photography, a platform that promotes emerging photographers in Europe. I have exhibited both individually and collectively at FOAM Fotografiemuseum (Amsterdam), Photo Ireland (Dublin), Festival Circulation(s) (Paris), Getxo Photo (Spain) or Food Culture Days (Vevey). Her work has been published in Foam Magazine, GUP Magazine, Yet Magazine, Fisheye, El Malpensante, Jot Down or C-41 Magazine, among others.

Ligia Popławska is a Polish visual artist based in Antwerp, Belgium, interested in speculative storytelling and in the impact of climate change on our senses. Her work explores themes of emotional states, human impact on natural environment, climate crisis and the Anthropocene. With a deep interest in natural phenomena, post-humanist philosophies, art history and sciences, her research-based work rise questions about human and more-than-human conditions.

She graduated with honours from the Photography department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BFA and MFA), previously gaining a BA in Art History from the University of Gdańsk (2016). Her project ‘Fading Senses’ won Decade of Change Series Award (2022) by the British Journal of Photography, as well as a solo exhibition at PhMuseum Days International Photography Festival in Bologna, Italy (2021) and Photography Prize funded by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (2020). She is a laureate of .tiff 2022 (FOMU Antwerp) and a recipient of a scholarship for Emerging Talents from the Flemish Government. Ligia Popławska exhibited at Bienal’23 Fotografia do Porto, FOMU (Antwerp), De Brakke Grond (Amsterdam), Helsinki Photo Festival, among others. She works as a photographer, an editor and an academic teacher.

Artist Yana Kononova has an academic background in social sciences, and holds a PhD in sociology. She was born on Pirallahi island in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and now based in Kyiv, Ukraine. 
Yana's work encompasses research in different subjects of art in their attitude to broader topics and in regard to the ways they have been conceptualised in the history of culture. Her current research focus is on seeking the spatiality and materiality image of inhuman (or post-human) environments while examining how different motifs and gravitations in art at different historical moments have been communicated with or affected by the issue of the inhuman. 
Yana's practice is greatly inspired by the pieces of the contemporary philosophical genre of ‘theory-fiction’ and by the black and white topographies of Chinese painting of Song dynasty which influenced the artist's concern with the materiality of a photography-based work. Quite often her approach is to create photographs on the ‘threshold’ between image and the material process that provides it.
Yana makes use of analog photography, texts and video in her practice.
